This flat area is cut up with some rivers: Bug, Włodawka, Tarasienka and conceals diversified geological structure.

Nature in Gmina Włodawa
Climatic conditions in Gmina Włodawa are typical of the whole region – Polesie Lubelskie. The warmest month is July which favours the development of tourism. Many picturesqe lakes and forests have an influence on attractiveness of landscapes. Those lakes are undoubtedly the great wealth in Gmina Włodawa. With their clean water and regular shapes of the shoreline and due to their location in beautiful scenery of nearby forests, they attract thousands of touristst every year. Lakes are concentrated mainly in two areas. The first one is around Okuninka village – there are seven lakes with the White Lake and Glinki .The second one is in Sobiborski Landscape Park with seven lakes among forests.

White Lake is the pearl of Gmina Włodawa and voivodeship. The land around the lake became a leisure and recreation centre. The lake is 7 km far from Włodawa, 40 km far from Chełm and 95 km far from Lublin. Due to its attractive location the lake is extremely interesting subregion with high therapeutical, touristic and recreational values. It covers the area of 106 ha – it is 1616 m long and 806 m wide, its shoreline is 4262 m long. The maximum depth reaches 33m.

Water in the lake is the first class purity. White Lake has easy acces to waterand hard sandy bottom. There are about 20 species of fish living in this lake, e.g.: pike, whitefish, zander, eel, perch, carp, tench, bream. Summer here lasts avarage 105 days a year. The air dust is negligible and there are mainly mineral molecules.Presumably this is a lake of glacial origin.High temperature of water which slowly decreases with depth,is Its essential feature .

There are many holiday resorts around White Lake – about 64.Summer time is the time when restaurants, pubs, cinema, playgrounds, sports fields for games and plays, campsites, eating houses cottages and summer houses are open here for the tourists who can also rent some sports and swimming equipment to enjoy their holiday.

Vast forest in Sobiborski Landscape Park close to the lake is full of wild game, animals, mushrooms and berries. You can find there different species of animals, e.g.: elks, wolves, wild boars, deers and others. By the lake you can see some mallard ducks, terns, grebes, herons, swans, common moorhens, western marsh harriers. We can assure you that the place is worth visiting. It is even said that those who came here once will come once again for sure.

Glinki lake is situated in south – east near Orchówek village. This is a large reservoir and there are many possibilities to use it when we think about the development of tourism. This lake has an area of 47 ha. It is an ideal place for fishing and some water sports.

The second class of water purity allows the tourists to swim in the lake. Lack of holiday resorts is absolutely not discouraging for tourists since they have possibilities to put up some tents arond the lake and have a nice, few days of rest.Shoreline is characterised by some grass growing on the beaches. The area around the lake partialy in the forest. For several years authorities in Gmina seek to development of  the tourism infrastructureand encourage some investors to build accommodation facilitie, cultural, sports and leisure complex. From the east side, area around the lake is being prepared for construction of individual and group accomodation  and all kinds of services related to tourism and leisure.

Ecologically clean water and forest are the most important advantages of tourism and sightseeing in Gmina. These are also the main facors in development of the tourism industry and different forms of leisure activities.
Nowadays – Okunika by the White Lake, is the biggest recreation area – located in northern part of chełmskie voivodeship – agglomerates about 70 holiday resorts, campsides, and private summer houses. Close to this area ,there are less administrated but equally attractive lakes such as: Glinki, Black, Holy and Lipiniec.

One of the touristic attractions in gmina is Sobiborski Landscape Park with number of wildlife reserves. It started to exist in 1983 as one of the four parks forming Ecological System of Protected Regions in chełmskie voivodeship. Preserving the most valuable areas of the eastern part of Łęczyńsko – Włodawskie Lakeland – with large batches of  forests adjacent to peatbogs, was the main purpose of its establishment. Sobiborski Landscape Park lies in the basin of Bug. River network in this area is very poor.

Park is drained dby a small river Tarasienka and drainage ditches. Areas adjacent to Sobiborski Landscape Park are cut by the rivers Włodawka and Krzemianka. Surprising is the almost complete lack of springs. There are seven small lakes in the park. The biggest of these is Lake Spólne – area 77,5 ha and the smallest one is Lake Orchów – area 7ha.

Characteristic feature of all lakes is the inaccessibility of shores due to the location among the swamps and wetland forests. Only small fragments of shores of Lake Brudno from the east side, shores of Lake Pereszpa from the west side and shores of Lake Płotucze from the south side are drier and therefore more accassible. Most lakes in the Park belong to the eutrophic reservoirs. These are the shallow lakes rich in minerals. Their shores are overgrown with lush vegetation of rushes. Only the Lake Orchów is dystrophic. This is a very shallow reservoir with brownish tint and strong acidification water.

Sobiborski Landscape Park and its surroundings are the areas with excellent conditions for tourism. Lakes rich in fish, forests rich in blueberries, blackberries and mushrooms, and a unique microclimate attract thousands of tourists every year.

We want to recommend hiking trails leading through interesting, in terms of nature and landscape, places for all the amateurs of qualified tourism and hiking and cycling routes. Undoubted attraction,  for those who are canoeists, can be passage through the Bug river – its natural streambed, which is picturesque and creates numerous oxbow lakes called „ bużyska”. One of the main and most attractive tourist elements in this part of  the Łęczyńsko – Włodawskie Lakeland is a group of lakes – White – Glinki lagging the Park. There you find holiday resorts, summer houses, campsites, equipment rentals and water sports facilities, restaurants, cafes and discos.
