Bug River Department of the BG. 27 Volyn Army Division now protects the state border section with a length of 467 km, covering the area of its operation area of Lublin voivodeship. The detachment officers guarding the border with the Republic of Belarus (170 km) and the border with the Republic of Ukraine (over 290 km). The vast majority of the guarded section is a boundary that runs through the center of the river Bug (almost 400 km), the remaining section is the land border. Statutory tasks related to border protection are carried out by the detachment with the help of its resources 18 border organizational units - BG Agencies.  

 

Until 1991, there were eight watchtowers of Border Security Forces, located along the border, so each watchtower ,in fact protected,about 60 km of the border. It was a pretty poor border infrastructure, but perhaps sufficient for those times. There were fewer threats and the main burden of protection rested on the eastern border frontier troops of the former USSR. Since 1991, since the creation of the Border Guard the number of border agencies doubled . At the moment there are 18 of them.The number of full-time hired in the department is 2.5 thousand officers and civilian employees (eg in relation to 2002 it is almost 100% increase). The practice has already shown many times ,that to ensure the efectiveness of protection of the border, modern equipment is essential. Each year, the technical equipment of the department is improved .

 

BRBGD now has a good quality transportation equipment, communications equipment, and individual officers equipment. Patrolling boats sail on the Bug river and in winter the border is guarded by officers on snowmobiles. Activities related to protection of land borders are supported from the air using the aircraft. Border crossings are well equipped with technical equipment that allows for complete monitoring of border traffic (cameras, "X-rays", document readers, and video and endo skopy detectors of a "heartbeat," Radiometric gates - to detect even a minimum signal of radioactive material. Invaluable assistance in everyday service continues to reflect the service of dogs that have repeatedly passed the exam in the activities on the border, or in disclosure of attempts to smuggle all kinds of goods.

 

 

Generally, you may be tempted to say that the eastern border protection system implemented by the Border Guard is one of the most effective in Europe. After the Polish accession to the Schengen Agreement,on the border protected by BRBGD there no significant changes that could affect the average traveler crossing the border. The system of border control is the same as it was before. There was no and there is no concept of "selective control." 100% of the people and means of transport shall be subjected to border checks. Border Guard - after the entry into the system - as the legitimate authority has become one of the beneficiaries of the SIS (computer database that is accessible to border guards, police, consular offices of Member States). The information contained here to check if the persons or objects overpassing the borders of the Schengen area, or already on its territory are not sought, or whether it concerns their entry ban.
