The area of the todays Włodawa district were inhabited by the various nations for centuries. So different traditions and religions were mingled. Apart from Poles – Ukrainians, Belarusians, Jews and Germans lived here. Ukrainians lived mainly in villages. Their wooden houses were different from others – they were more colorful and had decorative windows. Today you can still see them, among others in the village of Sobibór and Wołczyny. Chapels and wayside crosses often standing at the crossroads are the regular feature of the regional landscape.Residents of Gmina Włodawa seek to retain their identity. At folk events they present local dishes in traditional – regional costumes patterned after the old ones sewn a long time ago. In the village Stawki there lives miss Elżbieta Zalewska – the only one in gmina Włodawa who sews regional striped costumes. Her grandmother and her mother used to sew such costumes. Nowadays those costumes are sewn only for the competitions of folk art or for some folk bands. Original costumes were entirely made of natural materials. Feminine summer dress was sewn with white linen, consisted of a shirt, apron and skirt decorated with colorful geometric ornamentation.Winter skirts were embroided with multicoloured striped wool. Married women covered their heads with hats. Men's summer costume was similar. White linen shirt was worn loosely girded with a selvage. Men wore trousers and overcoats made of cloth in winter. These costumes can be seen on permanent ethnographic exhibition titled :' Peasant pilgrimage” at the Łęczyńsko Włodawskie Lakeland Museum in Włodawa. In 2006 – 500 years have passed since the establishment of the two localities – Orchówek and Różanka. To celebrate the fact with dignity residents of both villages have spent precious time and put their hearts and souls into work. The residents in Różanka prepared „Wedding” - this folk event has shown how an old village wedding used to look like.It was fun and colorful. The residents in Orchówek celebrated their local festival on their pasture ground. Together with the Capuchins they organised a historical staging titled:”Kossyk's Journey” - telling the history of the local church and persecution of religious people in Orchówek by the tsarist authorities in the nineteenth century.Ladies from the local housewive's circles presented their artistic and culinary products – the grest cake and the dumpling were delicious.
